Active Training Grant Programs at UCLA­

This office has compiled a listing of t­he active training g­rants at UCLA. These grants are administered by UCLA departments or institutes, and typically provide a training fellowship for a postdoc or graduate student trainee for one or more years. Many of these traineeships can also be renewed for a second or third year. Each training program is focused on a particular area of research.

Each of these grants has unique application processes, eligibility requirements, and training goals, so please review your application options with your mentor and confirm all a­pplication details with the administrative contact for each grant.

 

UCLA’s Graduate Writing Center(GWC) invites graduate students and Postdoctoral Scholars to take advantage of GWC’s online Grant/Fellowship Writing Workshops. The GWC has recorded a number of workshops consisting of materials on:

 

-Writing Successful Grant and Fellowship Applications: focuses on strategies for writing effective applications for grants and fellowships to support graduate study and research, specifically for students seeking doctorates and research MAs.

-Applying for the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship: discusses strategies for applying for the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship.

-Applying for the NSF Dissertation Improvement Grant in the Biological Sciences: focuses on the merit criteria for NSF grants, the structure of the proposal, suggestions for writing style, and technical details of Fastlane submission.

-Funding Your Graduate Work: Tips and Strategies for Grant, Fellowship and Award Applications in the Sciences: provides an overview of funding opportunities for science graduate students at all stages of training (first year to dissertation year).

-Nuts and Bolts of NIH NRSA Applications: discusses ways of making the NIH NRSA application process easier and more manageable, including preparation, organization and writing strategies.
