Dr. Vallim was born in Brazil and emigrated to England as a teenager. In England, Dr. Vallim received his M.Sci and Ph.D from the University of Nottingham. As an undergraduate Ph.D student, Dr. Vallim’s research focused was on the transcriptional regulation of genes in lipid metabolism by dietary factors. In 2008, Dr. Vallim came to UCLA for his post-doctoral studies in the laboratory of Peter Edwards. At UCLA, Dr. Vallim’s research was focused on identifying molecular mechanisms that underlie the regulation of bile acid metabolism, the major pathway of cholesterol excretion from the body.
